Supporting your child within the routines of family life

What happens?

We will arrange the first visit to have a chat and see what issues you want to address.  We will agree what area we want to work on that is best suited to you, your child and family life. Then we arrange a second visit to complete a play and communication assessment as this will help ensure that what is made for your child will be appropriate for his/her needs. On the third visit we will bring out agreed resources and show you how to use them with your child. On the last visit we will get some feedback from you and make any necessary changes.  (Additional visits can be booked)

What areas do you work on with a child?

Every child and family situation is different.  However all children benefit from understanding the rules and routines at home whether it relates to daily events such a bedtime, getting ready for school, toileting routines or something else.  We work to support parents and children to create a mutually understood communication system that explains the expectations of every part of the day whether you are at home or out and about in the community.

How much does it cost?

The home visit package of four visits ranges from £240-£280 and can be paid in one or two instalments.  Additional visits can be booked and will be priced on request.

Please send an enquiry if you would like more details on our home visits.

Creating an environment for communication, play and positive behaviour.

Who is it for?

Our workshops are designed to meet the learning needs and interests of the Specially Connected Community.  This includes parents, children and those in the community who work with families who have children with additional needs.  Our workshops focus on developing Communication, Play and Positive Behaviour and are tailored to meet the needs of our audience.

What happens?

For some families it may be their first opportunity to meet us, others and share the workshop experience in a safe space.  For community groups e.g. playgroups, schools or parent support groups, it can create opportunities to provide new learning experiences for everyone. The sessions will always be informative and relaxed. We offer a variety of workshops to create multiple opportunities for parents, children, staff and community group involvement.

Play workshop

These are designed to promote ideas for developing play at home.  We set up a number of stations at the venue where parents can come with their child and explore the materials and ‘have a go’ at making something with them.  You can even take home a sample to try again later! We provide information about the particular area/s being developed through each activity as well as ideas to extend play. This workshop can be replicated in community settings, e.g. playgroups, local support groups.

Music and Movement Workshop

This creates an opportunity for parents and children to engage with musical stories and some unusual instruments under the guidance of our music teacher, Catherine. She combines singing, dancing, instruments and props to encourage full participation in each session. We model opportunities for communication, imitation and engagement in response to the age and ability of the children. This workshop can be replicated in community settings, e.g. playgroups, local support groups.

Parent workshop

These enable parents to come and have a focused discussion on areas relevant to them and have the opportunity to ‘Make and Take’ resources that can support them at home or when out and about. This workshop can be replicated in community settings, e.g. playgroups, local support groups.
